{"id":1703,"date":"2019-05-10T13:39:09","date_gmt":"2019-05-10T20:39:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.piercecountywa.gov\/executive\/?p=1703"},"modified":"2023-06-26T13:35:01","modified_gmt":"2023-06-26T20:35:01","slug":"1703","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.piercecountywa.gov\/executive\/2019\/05\/10\/1703\/","title":{"rendered":"Hello, Sunshine!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It\u2019s been quite a week in Pierce County!<\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday, the Council approved the ordinance that allows the Chambers Bay resort to move forward.\u00a0 I appreciate the due diligence and review completed by the Council as they performed their work.\u00a0 They had a vital role to play and I was pleased to see the ordinance pass with a 6 \u2013 1 vote.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m also grateful for the members of the Executive team who worked for the last two years to negotiate the ground lease agreement and provide briefings to the Council. My thanks to Don Anderson for leading this effort.<\/p>\n<p>Now, it\u2019s up to the development team to go out and secure the financing for the project.<\/p>\n<p>This week also saw the launch of the new <a href=\"https:\/\/investpiercecounty.com\/?sorting=featured%20desc,%20name%20asc&amp;showpropertyonmap=true\">Invest Pierce County<\/a> website.\u00a0 I\u2019m proud of the team that designed and produced this innovative site.<\/p>\n<p>The new site is the first of its kind in the region that pulls together all the commercial properties available in Pierce County for those looking to start or expand their business.\u00a0 It is tools like this one that really give us an edge in attracting new businesses and driving the creation of new family-wage jobs.<\/p>\n<p>Here are a few screenshots href=\"https:\/\/www.edbtacomapierce.org\/\">Economic Development Board (EDB)<\/a> for their fantastic work in bringing the site to life.\u00a0 Way to go, Rob Allen!\u00a0 The new website will pay dividends for years to come.<\/p>\n<p>Thanks, also, to Jody Ferguson and the team from Emergency Management for their work to support today&#8217;s lahar drill with the Orting School District.\u00a0 Picture more than 2,000 school-age kids evacuating from their school.\u00a0 The goal was to get safely out of the Valley on foot within 45 minutes.\u00a0 They cut their previous record by about 10
