{"id":2463,"date":"2020-06-26T09:59:02","date_gmt":"2020-06-26T16:59:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.piercecountywa.gov\/executive\/?p=2463"},"modified":"2023-06-26T13:34:11","modified_gmt":"2023-06-26T20:34:11","slug":"lots-of-questions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.piercecountywa.gov\/executive\/2020\/06\/26\/lots-of-questions\/","title":{"rendered":"Lots of questions"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Lots of questions<\/h3>\n<p>This week I gathered with hundreds of you at our second Town Hall.\u00a0 Many thanks to those of you who took the time to submit questions and participate.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2475\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.piercecountywa.gov\/executive\/files\/2020\/06\/Bruce-at-Town-Hall.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"6240\" height=\"4160\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.piercecountywa.gov\/executive\/files\/2020\/06\/Bruce-at-Town-Hall.jpg 6240w, https:\/\/blog.piercecountywa.gov\/executive\/files\/2020\/06\/Bruce-at-Town-Hall-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blog.piercecountywa.gov\/executive\/files\/2020\/06\/Bruce-at-Town-Hall-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blog.piercecountywa.gov\/executive\/files\/2020\/06\/Bruce-at-Town-Hall-1024x683.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 6240px) 100vw, 6240px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>There were many questions about the practices and protocols we\u2019re putting in place as we begin to reopen some portions of the County.\u00a0 You can hear about that and more in the replay below.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/432302778\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Given the timing of the Town Hall, one thing I couldn\u2019t address at that point is that we plan to apply with the state Department of Health for a variance to Phase 2.5.\u00a0 The Board of Health is scheduled to meet on July 1, our Council will take a vote, and I plan to submit the official application as soon as possible after that.<\/p>\n<p>Our approach in Phase 2.5 will focus on expanding activities that take place outdoors \u2013 taking advantage of our summer weather and the lower risk of transmission in outdoor settings.\u00a0 If approved, this will include more outdoor recreation and gatherings.\u00a0 We also are proposing expanding very low interaction summer activities like libraries and museums.\u00a0 Of course all of these must follow the appropriate precautions to limit the risk of COVID.\u00a0 However, general government services &#8211; including much of what we do &#8211; will not open until Phase 3.<\/p>\n<p>Why not go directly to Phase 3?\u00a0 Well, for starters, the Health Department announced 45 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday this week, along with another 35 yesterday.\u00a0 Those are big numbers for the County, lately. \u00a0We had been keeping the number of new cases pretty low for a while but the last few days have seen quite a jump, unfortunately.<\/p>\n<p>You can see the data here:\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tpchd.org\/healthy-people\/diseases\/covid-19-pierce-county-cases\/\">https:\/\/www.tpchd.org\/healthy-people\/diseases\/covid-19-pierce-county-cases\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p>There are a couple of the good data points, however. \u00a0Hospitalizations remain very low and testing has ramped up significantly.<\/p>\n<p>As part of our CARES Act funds we have allocated money to make testing even more accessible and convenient.<\/p>\n<p>Take a look at the video below to learn more:<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed wp-block-embed-youtube is-type-video is-provider-youtube epyt-figure\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\"  id=\"_ytid_58919\"  width=\"640\" height=\"360\"  data-origwidth=\"640\" data-origheight=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/43aor90rCmw?enablejsapi=1&autoplay=0&cc_load_policy=0&cc_lang_pref=&iv_load_policy=1&loop=1&playlist=43aor90rCmw&modestbranding=0&rel=0&fs=1&playsinline=0&autohide=2&theme=dark&color=red&controls=0&\" class=\"__youtube_prefs__  no-lazyload\" title=\"YouTube player\"  allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen data-no-lazy=\"1\" data-skipgform_ajax_framebjll=\"\"><\/iframe><\/div><\/figure>\n<p>We also have a strong team of folks, lead by our TPCHD, following up on any positive cases and with those who have been potentially exposed, including daily check-in phone calls.\u00a0 Many of our County colleagues are going through the training to augment this effort, if needed.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m as eager as anyone to get to Phase 3, and beyond. But we must be diligent and committed to doing those things that will get us there as soon as possible, in a safe and responsible way.
