Has there been any formal or informal measurement of how individuals or teams have weathered the COVID changes to our work lives?<\/p>\n<p>Thanks for the question!\u00a0 First, in 2019 we started conducting an annual employee engagement survey \u2013 prior to that we were doing it every two years.\u00a0 Even in the face of a challenging of 2020, we decided not to skip doing the survey.\u00a0 The results can be found on <a href=\"https:\/\/open.piercecountywa.gov\/stories\/s\/yvpw-wtwx\">Open Pierce County<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Two questions I look at particularly carefully are #16 (\u201cOverall, I am satisfied with my job\u201d) and #17 (\u201cI would recommend Pierce County as an employer to others\u201d).\u00a0 Both of those responses improved from 2019 to 2020!\u00a0 We plan to conduct the survey again this year.\u00a0 Look for it in the next few months.<\/p>\n<p>However, I really like to hear directly from those \u201cin the trenches\u201d who are serving our residents.\u00a0 Based on the conversations I have had with many of our colleagues in 2020 they are tired, but proud of the critically important work that we have been doing for our community. \u00a0So, I know that those employees are engaged and dedicated to their work.\u00a0 I think that translates to strong morale.<\/p>\n<p>Having said that, I must admit that I\u2019m probably not the best person to assess an employee\u2019s morale.\u00a0 It would surprise no one that when I talk with folks, our conversations are energetic and animated.\u00a0 It\u2019s as if they want to be on their \u201cbest behavior.\u201d\u00a0 I get it.<\/p>\n<p>But our question writer\u2019s query is important.\u00a0 So, I\u2019ll toss it to you &#8211; how are you doing?\u00a0 I invite you to send a quick email to me and let me know.<\/p>\n<p>I certainly hope that you are feeling happy in your work, despite the many challenges that I realize you may be facing.\u00a0 We\u2019ve all struggled but as more of us are getting vaccinated (I have an appointment for Saturday), we can see a more normal world on the horizon.\u00a0 Just like our Spring weather, the dark storms of Winter are behind us.\u00a0 We still have some April showers ahead, but the May flowers are coming.<\/p>\n<p>Thanks for reading,<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-78 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.piercecountywa.gov\/executive\/files\/2017\/01\/Bruce-blue-signature.png\" alt=\"Bruce\" width=\"80\" height=\"42\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.piercecountywa.gov\/executive\/files\/2017\/01\/Bruce-blue-signature.png 680w, https:\/\/blog.piercecountywa.gov\/executive\/files\/2017\/01\/Bruce-blue-signature-300x157.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 80px) 100vw, 80px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Bruce<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This week, several hundred of you joined me for a virtual Employee Town Hall.\u00a0 I always appreciate being able to update you on County priorities and hearing your thoughts and questions &#8211; unvarnished and direct!
