Since 2017 we\u2019ve had a strategic plan that identified our mission, vision, values, and several key objectives designed to address the needs of our residents.<\/p>\n

Now that we\u2019ve had the benefit of more than four years of seeing the plan in action, I\u2019m pleased to share an updated version of that plan<\/a> with you via this blog.<\/p>\n

For the last several weeks, we\u2019ve had a team of leaders working on plan refinements that better reflect the current state of the county.<\/p>\n

The first thing you\u2019ll notice in the updated plan is a revised vision statement: \u201cA place people are proud to call home.\u201d Not only is the updated vision statement quite a bit shorter, it also leaves room for people to interpret it in a way that speaks to them.\u00a0 What makes you proud to call Pierce County home?\u00a0 For one person it may be the natural beauty of our surroundings.\u00a0 For another it may be a great school.\u00a0 And, for another, it could be a warm neighborhood feel.\u00a0 The bottom line of the vision is that if you are proud of where you live then you will invest the time, energy, and other resources to help take care of it and make it even better.<\/p>\n

The second change is to our mission statement.\u00a0 The previous mission was: \u201cThrough collaboration and partnership, Pierce County delivers efficient, innovative and reliable public services to enhance our quality of life.\u201d\u00a0 Phew – that\u2019s a mouthful!\u00a0 And, yes, we are still doing this, but we wanted to simplify it.\u00a0 So, our new mission is to \u201cbuild strong communities.\u201d\u00a0 Direct and to the point, I\u2019d say.<\/p>\n

You\u2019ll start seeing the updated poster in workspaces and conference rooms in the days ahead but in the meantime, I\u2019ll walk you through the high points.<\/p>\n

Our three primary categories remain Vibrant Communities, Entrepreneurial Climate and Effective Government.\u00a0 However, we made a few tweaks to the list of \u201cTier 1\u201d objectives under each category.<\/p>\n
