It\u2019s about a haunted building.\u00a0 Many of you \u201clong-timers\u201d will remember the old Puget Sound Hospital and its resident ghost, Mabel!<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenewstribune.com\/news\/politics-government\/article136484373.html\">Tacoma News Tribune wrote a story<\/a> about the apparition that regularly appeared in what was once a behavioral health hospital.<\/p>\n<p>The old hospital had been abandoned for years and we made it a priority on my arrival to the County to demolish the old hospital that was a magnet for bad and dangerous behavior.<\/p>\n<p>That old, haunted spot has now come back to life as the new Puget Sound Communications Center (PSCC) &#8211; home to South Sound 911. \u00a0The building combines several SS911 locations into one integrated operation, a long-time priority in our community.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3186\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.piercecountywa.gov\/executive\/files\/2021\/10\/SS911-interior.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"4032\" height=\"3024\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.piercecountywa.gov\/executive\/files\/2021\/10\/SS911-interior.jpg 4032w, https:\/\/blog.piercecountywa.gov\/executive\/files\/2021\/10\/SS911-interior-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blog.piercecountywa.gov\/executive\/files\/2021\/10\/SS911-interior-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blog.piercecountywa.gov\/executive\/files\/2021\/10\/SS911-interior-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 4032px) 100vw, 4032px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The ribbon cutting on the newly constructed PSCC was held last Monday and I\u2019m proud that we delivered for the people of Pierce County. \u00a0Pierce County bonded the project and our good budgeting and financial management made our bonds very attractive &#8211; we were able to sell $52M in bonds for $59M &#8211; a $7M savings for the taxpayers of Pierce County!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3187\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.piercecountywa.gov\/executive\/files\/2021\/10\/SS911-ribboncutting.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"4032\" height=\"3024\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.piercecountywa.gov\/executive\/files\/2021\/10\/SS911-ribboncutting.jpg 4032w, https:\/\/blog.piercecountywa.gov\/executive\/files\/2021\/10\/SS911-ribboncutting-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blog.piercecountywa.gov\/executive\/files\/2021\/10\/SS911-ribboncutting-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blog.piercecountywa.gov\/executive\/files\/2021\/10\/SS911-ribboncutting-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 4032px) 100vw, 4032px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>And I was pleased to learn that old Mabel made the move to the new PSCC &#8211; with a conference room named in her honor. \u00a0I have heard the SS911 team has already noted some strange happenings in that room!<\/p>\n<p>One last \u201ctreat\u201d before I close: next Wednesday we are hosting one of my favorite nights of the year: the Employee Recognition event!\u00a0 I regret we can\u2019t be together in person, but I know you will be amazed and inspired by the work your County colleagues have done for the people of Pierce County over the last year.<\/p>\n<p>You can join us on the livestream on November 3 at 6:30 p.m. at\u00a0 \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.piercecountywa.gov\/7047\/Virtual-Employee-Banquet\">https:\/\/www.piercecountywa.gov\/7047\/Virtual-Employee-Banquet<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>And don\u2019t forget the basket giveaway!\u00a0 This year\u2019s contest is open to all employees, but you must enter via <a href=\"https:\/\/www.piercecountywa.gov\/7047\/Virtual-Employee-Banquet\">https:\/\/www.piercecountywa.gov\/7047\/Virtual-Employee-Banquet<\/a>.\u00a0 In all, twenty baskets donated by departments will be given away.<\/p>\n<p>This year we are supporting My Sister\u2019s Pantry.
