{"id":3580,"date":"2022-07-29T11:44:25","date_gmt":"2022-07-29T18:44:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.piercecountywa.gov\/executive\/?p=3580"},"modified":"2023-06-26T13:26:48","modified_gmt":"2023-06-26T20:26:48","slug":"as-good-as-it-gets","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.piercecountywa.gov\/executive\/2022\/07\/29\/as-good-as-it-gets\/","title":{"rendered":"As good as it gets"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3588\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.piercecountywa.gov\/executive\/files\/2022\/07\/SummerBlog-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1200\" height=\"800\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.piercecountywa.gov\/executive\/files\/2022\/07\/SummerBlog-1.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/blog.piercecountywa.gov\/executive\/files\/2022\/07\/SummerBlog-1-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blog.piercecountywa.gov\/executive\/files\/2022\/07\/SummerBlog-1-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blog.piercecountywa.gov\/executive\/files\/2022\/07\/SummerBlog-1-1024x683.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This past Tuesday our Executive Team had a farewell luncheon for Patty Harper who has served as the \u201cfirst impression\u201d for our office.\u00a0 While we will miss her on the 7th Floor, we are excited for her new opportunity with the Finance Department!<\/p>\n<p>At the lunch, I asked a question of the group: \u201cWhat is your favorite thing to do in Pierce County on a sunny 90-degree day?\u201d\u00a0 Not surprisingly, their answers involved getting outdoors!\u00a0 They included: biking on the Foothills Trail (early or late in the day); hiking in the hills; picnicking in a park; floating on a lake; and my favorite &#8211; boating with a refreshing dunk in Puget Sound!\u00a0 We also had a spirited debate between swimming in fresh or saltwater!<\/p>\n<p>There is no better time of year than summer in the Pacific Northwest!\u00a0 Minus the heatwave, of course!\u00a0 In Pierce County, we are blessed with wonderful open spaces to exercise, romp or just spend some down time with friends and family members.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s no wonder that July is also national Parks and Recreation month!<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed wp-block-embed-youtube is-type-video is-provider-youtube epyt-figure\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\"  id=\"_ytid_91309\"  width=\"640\" height=\"360\"  data-origwidth=\"640\" data-origheight=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/-oWucrs78IY?enablejsapi=1&autoplay=0&cc_load_policy=0&cc_lang_pref=&iv_load_policy=1&loop=1&playlist=-oWucrs78IY&modestbranding=0&rel=0&fs=1&playsinline=0&autohide=2&theme=dark&color=red&controls=0&\" class=\"__youtube_prefs__  no-lazyload\" title=\"YouTube player\"  allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen data-no-lazy=\"1\" data-skipgform_ajax_framebjll=\"\"><\/iframe><\/div><\/figure>\n<p>Cheers to Roxanne Miles, our Parks director, and her crew as we finish up our celebration of Parks this month.<\/p>\n<p>You have one last opportunity to mark the month with Pierce County Trails Day tomorrow, July 30.\u00a0 It\u2019s a great time to get outside \u2013 with sunscreen and plenty of water \u2013 and make some great memories.\u00a0 And, thanks to our friends at Pierce Transit, you can get free transportation to select trailheads.\u00a0 Check out more bus routes and locations\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.piercetransit.org\/trailsandtransit\/\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Here are a few others who are tops in their field!<\/p>\n<p>Hardhats off to Laurie Pierce, the manager of Planning and Public Works\u2019 Wastewater Operations, for her recognition as the 2022 Woman of the Year by the\u00a0Pacific Northwest Clean Water Association!<\/p>\n<p>Laurie has dedicated more than 30 years to the wastewater industry. She manages the daily wastewater operations at two wastewater treatment facilities, as well as the laboratory and industrial pretreatment programs.<\/p>\n<p>Congratulations, Laurie!<\/p>\n<p>I am also very proud to announce this year\u2019s Standing Ovation Award nominees!\u00a0 You can read the entire list <a href=\"https:\/\/my.co.pierce.wa.us\/3714\/2022-Standing-Ovation-Nominees\">here<\/a> but I want to offer a shout out to everyone who was nominated from across Pierce County.\u00a0 Each of you represents the very best of us. Thank you for everything you do to make Pierce County a place we are proud to call home!<\/p>\n<p>I hope you will mark your calendar to join me on the evening of Wednesday, November 2 for the Employee Incentive and Recognition celebration.\u00a0 It will be our first in-person version of the event since 2019.
