{"id":4072,"date":"2023-06-16T05:37:45","date_gmt":"2023-06-16T12:37:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.piercecountywa.gov\/executive\/?p=4072"},"modified":"2023-06-26T13:26:32","modified_gmt":"2023-06-26T20:26:32","slug":"back-to-giving","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.piercecountywa.gov\/executive\/2023\/06\/16\/back-to-giving\/","title":{"rendered":"Back to giving"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-4070\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.piercecountywa.gov\/executive\/files\/2023\/06\/blood.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"606\" height=\"485\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.piercecountywa.gov\/executive\/files\/2023\/06\/blood.jpeg 4330w, https:\/\/blog.piercecountywa.gov\/executive\/files\/2023\/06\/blood-300x240.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/blog.piercecountywa.gov\/executive\/files\/2023\/06\/blood-768x614.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/blog.piercecountywa.gov\/executive\/files\/2023\/06\/blood-1024x819.jpeg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 606px) 100vw, 606px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I am very used to debates, but it is generally over policy or budget priorities.\u00a0 Wednesday, my left arm was the subject.\u00a0 Sunny was carefully weighing which of my big veins she was going to use to collect a pint of blood.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4073\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.piercecountywa.gov\/executive\/files\/2023\/06\/WorldBloodDonorDay2023-10-of-30-.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"6048\" height=\"4024\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.piercecountywa.gov\/executive\/files\/2023\/06\/WorldBloodDonorDay2023-10-of-30-.jpg 6048w, https:\/\/blog.piercecountywa.gov\/executive\/files\/2023\/06\/WorldBloodDonorDay2023-10-of-30--300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blog.piercecountywa.gov\/executive\/files\/2023\/06\/WorldBloodDonorDay2023-10-of-30--768x511.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blog.piercecountywa.gov\/executive\/files\/2023\/06\/WorldBloodDonorDay2023-10-of-30--1024x681.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 6048px) 100vw, 6048px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I was very happy to be one of the nearly 50 donors at this week\u2019s mobile blood drive at the County-City Building (CCB) &#8211; the first we have hosted since the pandemic.\u00a0 And it could not have come at a better time.\u00a0 Not only was it World Blood Donation Day on Wednesday, but summer activities drive up the need for blood products by 30%!\u00a0 Plus, the rules for who can donate have recently changed, so even more people can help out our community by extending their arms!<\/p>\n<p>We had colleagues participate from around the County!\u00a0 Bryan Dominique from the Council staff was giving just ahead of me.\u00a0 Heather Moss, our Human Services Director, gave after finishing up a meeting at the CCB.\u00a0 Johnny Mauger from Floodplain Services also joined us in the bloodmobile.\u00a0 He\u00a0was at a training on the UWT campus, and walked up to donate during his lunch hour!\u00a0 As for me, this pint was the first toward my 12 gallon milestone. \u00a0In addition to big veins, I am very healthy and not afraid of needles, so I am a regular giver!\u00a0 However, it was very convenient to be able to walk out the front door of the CCB to do it.<\/p>\n<p>The stories of the lifesaving impacts of a donation are powerful and you can read some of them <a href=\"https:\/\/www.crbs.net\/testimonials\/\">here<\/a>.
