{"id":633,"date":"2024-09-17T16:07:56","date_gmt":"2024-09-17T23:07:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.piercecountywa.gov\/humanservices\/?p=633"},"modified":"2024-09-17T16:07:58","modified_gmt":"2024-09-17T23:07:58","slug":"connecting-with-community-partners","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.piercecountywa.gov\/humanservices\/2024\/09\/17\/connecting-with-community-partners\/","title":{"rendered":"Connecting with Community Partners"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Greetings, partners!<br><br>I hope you are enjoying these late summer days.\u00a02024 just seems to be flying by!\u00a0As you likely know, life is busy here in Pierce County, and especially busy for us in the county government world: continuous procurements and contracts (always a crowd pleaser!), new opioid settlement funding, growing needs of our veterans, seniors, and individuals experiencing homelessness\u2026oh, and an election of a new County Executive and a couple seats on the County Council.\u00a0Busy times.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Connecting in the Community<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Amidst that craziness, the Human Services leadership team has not forgotten the importance of spending in-person time together, getting out of our daily comfort zones, and connecting with our valuable community partners. We\u2019ve been going on site visits to see providers across the community. I personally have also been reaching out to connect one-on-one with some of our highest-funded partners so I can hear from them (you!) about what\u2019s going on in the community, how services are being delivered, and what we can do to be better partners.&nbsp;I\u2019m so grateful to have those conversations because they help me, and our department, improve our work.&nbsp;Here\u2019s a taste of what I heard:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Our partners appreciate the relationships they have with our staff, and in-person meetings are important.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Despite the pandemic being over and the massive flood of emergency funding drying up, needs for critical services are still high in Pierce County.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Providers are often struggling alongside their clients \u2013 too much work, insufficient resources, burned out staff, and disconnected communities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A Big Thanks<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>And, as for those team site visits \u2013 I want to share a big THANK YOU to the following agencies for hosting our department leadership team, sharing a bit about their programs, and giving us a chance to be a part of the action!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/goodroots.org\/\">GoodRoots Northwest<\/a>: Stacey and her team are transforming the way we address food insecurity.&nbsp;If you haven\u2019t checked out GoodRoots in Bonney Lake, go!<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tacomacommunityhouse.org\/\">Tacoma Community House<\/a>: Aimee welcomed us to use their conference room, and our whole leadership team volunteered in an English as a Second Language (ESL) class.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.horsesguidinghumans.com\/\">Horses Guiding Humans<\/a>: Sholeh and her crew showed us around their farm and let us hang out with some beautiful horses (and a donkey \ud83d\ude09).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Next up\u2026serving lunch at Tacoma Rescue Mission with Duke!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.piercecountywa.gov\/humanservices\/files\/2024\/09\/LT-at-HGH-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-634\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.piercecountywa.gov\/humanservices\/files\/2024\/09\/LT-at-HGH-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/blog.piercecountywa.gov\/humanservices\/files\/2024\/09\/LT-at-HGH-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blog.piercecountywa.gov\/humanservices\/files\/2024\/09\/LT-at-HGH-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blog.piercecountywa.gov\/humanservices\/files\/2024\/09\/LT-at-HGH-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/blog.piercecountywa.gov\/humanservices\/files\/2024\/09\/LT-at-HGH-2048x1365.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 767px) 89vw, (max-width: 1000px) 54vw, (max-width: 1071px) 543px, 580px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The Human Services Leadership Team visits Horses Guiding Humans in Graham, WA.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>If you want to connect, please reach out.
