182nd St E & 78th Ave E, South Hill

Deputies were dispatched to a collision that had just occurred involving a car and a fence. Multiple 911 callers reported that a Toyota Prius had crashed into a fence and the driver was possibly overdosing. When deputies arrived, several fire personnel were standing near the Prius holding down the male driver. They told deputies that the driver attempted to pull a gun on them as they were treating him. A deputy patted the driver down for other weapons and discovered that he was wearing body armor under his shirt. The 28-year-old male was transported to the hospital. Deputies noticed that the VIN on the Prius’ dash was covered, so they opened the door to find the sticker. A records check revealed the vehicle was stolen. In plain view, deputies spotted a gun, knife and drug paraphernalia. After the driver received medical care, he was booked into jail for DUI, possession of a stolen vehicle, and unlawful possession of a firearm. The driver has 12 prior felony convictions. Deputies served a search warrant on the vehicle and located a pistol, a pellet rifle, ammo, vest-style body armor, knives, and personal documents belonging to other individuals. They also found items that were stolen during a prowl of a fire department employee’s work vehicle.
