Eluding, Drug Possession
10600 blk Sales Rd S, Parkland
Incident # 24-048-01494

A patrol deputy was doing an area search for an assault suspect when he spotted a vehicle similar to the suspect’s vehicle. The driver saw the deputy and sped away. As the deputy tried to catch up to see if it was the suspect, the driver attempted to elude him by running stop signs, speeding and cutting through parking lots. Once he caught up to the vehicle, the deputy determined it was not the suspect he was looking for, but decided a traffic stop for reckless driving was appropriate. When the deputy activated his lights and siren, the driver sped away again, this time passing vehicles in oncoming lanes. The deputy couldn’t legally pursue the vehicle and lost sight of it in the curve at 116th St S and Spanaway Loop Rd S. As the deputy continued driving, multiple people pointed out the suspect’s direction of travel. As he checked the area, the deputy located the vehicle parked in front of a residence. The driver fled on foot and when deputies caught up to him, he pretended to be sleeping in a backyard. The 31-year-old suspect was arrested for eluding. When deputies searched his backpack, they found 82 grams of methamphetamine and a scale. He was booked into jail and a charge of unlawful possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute was added.
