On August 29 at approximately 7:30 a.m., one of our deputies observed a white BMW SUV traveling southbound on Pacific Ave. S. at a high rate of speed while weaving in and out of traffic. The BMW appeared to be traveling alongside or racing another dark-colored vehicle, which was also heading southbound.
Around the same time, dispatch advised deputies that a white BMW reported traveling southbound on Pacific Ave. S. may be connected to several car prowls involving firearms and possible juveniles. Deputies were also advised that a white BMW SUV had recently been stolen at gunpoint in Tacoma and that its occupants were reportedly involved in a crime spree throughout the night.
Based on the information available, the deputy had reasonable suspicion that the BMW was involved in the reported crimes, and a pursuit was initiated. The BMW continued southbound on Pacific Ave. S. at speeds exceeding 100 mph, creating a significant danger to other motorists and the public. During the pursuit, the vehicle swerved into a ditch before quickly recovering, ultimately losing two tires. The disabled vehicle came to a stop, and three juveniles fled on foot. Deputies quickly located and took all three into custody.
The BMW was left running and abandoned in the roadway. Two firearms were visible in plain view, one on the driver’s side and another on the passenger’s side. The driver was identified as a 14-year-old male, with passengers who were 14 and 16-years-old. All three juveniles were booked into Remann Hall.
This incident serves as another reminder of the serious risks created when stolen vehicles, firearms, reckless driving, and juveniles intersect. Our deputies remain committed to pursuing dangerous offenders and protecting the safety of our community.
