Dangers of Driving Through Water

The Pierce County Sheriff’s Office, along with Fire crews, County employees, and the Department of Emergency Management, are working to keep people safe by closing down roads that are too dangerous to drive over. Please do not attempt to drive over large bodies of water. It only takes about 12 inches of water to float your vehicle away, and we sadly get many drowning accidents due to cars submerged in water. Please take all road closures and evacuations seriously. We encourage all residents, especially those in flood zones, to sign up for the PCALERT at www.PierceCountyWa.gov/Alert and monitor NOAA river forecasts at https://Water.noaa.gov.
