Yesterday, at 6:03 p.m., deputies were dispatched to an armed carjacking at an apartment complex in the 4800 block of 176th St E in Frederickson. The 911 caller said the suspects were armed with scissors and attempted to steal his car.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
When deputies arrived, the apartment manager told them that she was walking with a potential renter when she saw two people wearing masks arrive in a maroon Hyundai. When she heard the suspects break windows on two cars, she hid inside a building for her safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
One of the vehicle owners exited his apartment and confronted one of the suspects. He pushed the suspect to the ground, and when he got back up, the suspect pulled out a pair of scissors and swung them at the victim. The suspect jumped into the Hyundai that he and his accomplice arrived in, and they fled.
The victim initially chased after the suspects\u2019 vehicle, but eventually he turned around and returned to the scene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
While deputies were speaking with witnesses, dispatch advised them that 911 callers had reported an unoccupied, stolen black Hyundai in the area where the victim last saw the suspects. A deputy responded to that scene and discovered that the black Hyundai was gone, but the maroon Hyundai used in the attempted carjacking was now dumped there. A witness told the deputy that at about 4:45 p.m., he saw three juveniles drop off the black Hyundai and leave the neighborhood in the maroon Hyundai. The witness also saw them return to pick up the maroon Hyundai.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A short time later, the owner of the maroon Hyundai noticed his car was missing from his residence and called 911 to report it. There was broken glass left behind where his vehicle had been parked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A rear-facing dash camera captured video of two suspects attempting to steal one of the vehicles. The video is high quality and we\u2019re hopeful that someone in the community will recognize at least one of them.
