Traffic stops are like a mystery bag; you never know what you are going to get. This traffic stop appears normal at first, but then quickly unfolds into much more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On July 1st around 2:45am, deputies spotted a vehicle traveling at approximately 70 mph on Steele St. S. Deputies caught up to it at a traffic light and decided to conduct a traffic stop in the 9500 block of Steele St. S for the reckless speed. During the traffic stop, the driver opened the glove box, and a gun could be seen. The deputy asked the driver to step out, and things escalated quickly when he refused. The deputies extract the suspect from the vehicle at the same time he puts the shift lever in reverse. Fortunately, the deputies were able to extract him before he could take off. Things don\u2019t get better from here, and as the suspect is being searched, incident to arrest, he breaks free from the deputy and flees on foot with handcuffs on. A short foot pursuit leads to his capture a second time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The 38-year-old male was arrested for resisting, obstructing, and unlawful possession of a firearm, since he was a convicted felon. He was also found with cocaine, opioids, methamphetamine, baggies, and a scale on his person, along with $2,184 dollars in cash. A search warrant of the vehicle located another bag with more opioids, empty pill capsules, another person’s ID, and other drug distribution items. Additional charges of unlawful distribution of narcotics were included.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
