Roads become dangerous when street racers come to town. This University Place deputy has seen it all, but when he observes two vehicles racing on Bridgeport Way W, he puts an end to the reckless behavior. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
On September 8th<\/sup> around 9:30 pm, one of our University Place deputies was conducting a speed emphasis on Bridgeport Way W when he observed two vehicles slow alongside each other and then accelerate together at a high rate of speed. An attempted traffic stop was unsuccessful. <\/p>\n\n\n\n After an area check, both unlicensed vehicles were spotted parked side-by-side in a parking lot, and the deputy had established probable cause for reckless driving and street racing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n The two 25-year-old males were arrested for reckless driving and street racing and booked into the Pierce County Jail. Per Washington laws for street racing that were adopted in January of 2024, any vehicle involved in street racing will have a 72-hour impound hold and can be seized for search warrants to gather evidence of street racing. On a second offense of street racing, the vehicle is subject to forfeiture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The deputy submitted a search warrant, which was approved, and the suspect\u2019s dash cam was removed for evidence. Upon review of the dash cam, the suspects are seen alongside each other, racing at a high rate of speed. The dash cam shows one of the vehicles accelerating up to 107-mph in a 35-mph zone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Both vehicles were later impounded with the 72-hour hold.<\/p>\n\n\n\n We love cool cars, but our county streets are not the place to race.
