Anti-theft software upgrade event this weekend for Kia owners

KIA OWNERS: This one is for you! This weekend, Kia is providing FREE software upgrades at two locations in our region. We HIGHLY recommend making this a priority this weekend if you haven’t already had the anti-theft software installed at a local dealer.

You don’t need an appointment and the upgrade is FREE. The following vehicles have a key-start ignition and NEED the software upgrade:

2010-2022 Soul
2011-2020 Optima
2011-2021 Forte
2011-2021 Rio
2011-2021 Sedona
2021-2022 Seltos
2011-2022 Sorento
2011-2022 Sportage
2021-2022 K5

The software upgrade modifies certain vehicle control modules on Kia vehicles equipped with standard “turn-key-to-start” ignition systems. As a result, locking the doors will set the factory alarm and activate an “ignition kill” feature so the vehicle cannot be started when subjected to the popularized theft mode.

The upgrade is installed by Kia technicians, takes about 30 minutes, and there is a climate-controlled customer waiting area with snacks, beverages and restrooms.

Please visit one of these locations this weekend (May 17-19):

TACOMA MALL
4502 S. Steele St. | Tacoma

FACTORIA MALL
4025 Factoria Square Mall SE | Bellevue

HOURS
Fri & Sat | 8am – 6pm
Sun | 8am – 3pm

There are also FREE steering wheel locks available, which we highly recommend as a visual deterrent, even after the upgrade.

To see if your vehicle needs the upgrade, please use Kia’s VIN checker: https://customercare.kiausa.com/SWLD
