Incident # 24-280-01455
A deputy was dispatched to a residence to take a fraud report. When he arrived, the 72-year-old victim told him that she had been contacted on Facebook by a friend who told her about an opportunity to make $200,000. She had a discussion with her friend via Facebook Messenger and was told that she would need to make a donation to a charitable cause as the first step. He put her in contact with another person who had her send $900 in iTunes and Sephora gift cards as a donation. The victim contacted her son about the exchange, and he quickly recognized it as a scam. It turns out that a scammer had spoofed the friend’s Facebook account, creating a similar profile and using that to communicate with the victim. There were also legitimate-looking websites for the alleged charity. The deputy took a deeper dive and realized those were fake as well. After gathering information for his report, the deputy had an in-depth conversation with the victim and taught her what to look for to identify a scam.

A deputy was dispatched to a residence to take a fraud report. When he arrived, the 35-year-old victim told him that she had been scammed out of $2,000 in Bitcoin. She said she received a phone call from someone who identified himself as the sheriff of a small county in Oregon. He told her that she had a warrant and he provided all her personal information. He also name-dropped some deputies and they were people that the victim knew to be real deputies there. The caller told her she needed to pay $2,000 to resolve the warrant. He kept her on the line for nearly 90 minutes while she went to the store and purchased $2,000 in Bitcoin. Once the transaction was complete, the caller said she now needed to take care of a federal warrant. A second caller got on the line and the victim got suspicious. She called the non-emergency number in Oregon and they confirmed it was a scam.

Pacific Ave S & SR-507 S, Spanaway
Incident # 24-280-02276
Patrol deputies were driving in the 17600 block of Pacific Ave S when they spotted a suspect with a felony warrant driving a pickup truck. They conducted a traffic stop and arrested the driver for his warrant. While talking with him, deputies could hear that the suspect was listening to a police scanner app on his phone. Deputies searched the suspect and located brass knuckles in his pocket. The 56-year-old was booked into jail.

Vandalism Arrest
13700 blk Pacific Ave S, Parkland
Incident # 24-280-01614
Deputies were dispatched to a vandalism in progress at a Mexican restaurant. When they arrived, victims and witnesses told them about a suspect who had been throwing rocks at cars. Deputies located the 41-year-old suspect nearby and arrested him. Damages to two vehicles included a shattered back window, dented hood, broken taillight, and a dented door. One of the vehicles was brand new and still had a temporary tag. The suspect was booked into jail for malicious mischief in the second degree.
