On Jan. 31, at 5pm, deputies were dispatched to a single-car collision in the 42300 block of Mountain Hwy E near Eatonville. When they arrived, they discovered that a vehicle had rolled down a steep embankment and the driver was pinned inside.
Our Search and Rescue Team responded to the scene and initiated a high-angle rescue using a rope system. Fire personnel extricated the driver from the vehicle and rescuers pulled him up the embankment in a rescue basket. He received medical aid for serious injuries.
After the rescue, deputies were able to gather further details about the collision. The 37-year-old driver had been travelling northbound on Mountain Hwy E when an oncoming car crossed over into his lane. He swerved and went over the embankment. He called his father at 1:15pm. His father located him at 5pm and called 911.
Multiple agencies assisted in the rescue, including: Washington State Patrol, South Pierce Fire, Central Pierce Fire and Graham Fire.
