Stolen Vehicle, Eluding, DUI
400 blk 111th St Ct E, Parkland
Deputies were dispatched to an apartment complex where a driver was slumped over inside his car. When deputies arrived, they saw that the driver also had drug paraphernalia (burnt foil) on his lap. The car didn’t have any license plates, so a deputy quickly jotted down the VIN. He blocked in the vehicle with his patrol car and then ran a records check on the vehicle. It was confirmed as a stolen vehicle. Deputies placed stop sticks in front of the vehicle in case the driver woke up and tried to flee. When deputies woke up the driver to arrest him, he immediately started the car and accelerated. He rammed a patrol car and pushed it out of the way so he could escape. He ran over the stop sticks in the process. A slow-speed pursuit ensued and the suspect’s vehicle broke down at Park Ave S and 121st St S. He led deputies on a short foot pursuit before being arrested. He provided a false name, but he had his California ID on him. He told deputies he used fentanyl and meth before the incident. He also had cocaine in his pocket. After a blood draw was completed, the 27-year-old suspect was booked into jail for possession of a stolen vehicle, felony eluding, unlawful possession of a controlled substance and DUI. Jail staff located numerous credit cards, social security cards and insurance cards in his wallet that didn’t belong to him.
