This past Sunday night, at 11:44 p.m., two patrol deputies spotted a vehicle driving erratically in the 10900 block of 22nd Ave E in Parkland. The vehicle was travelling at a high rate of speed, so they followed from a distance while they watched for other signs of DUI. After seeing the vehicle driving on the wrong side of the road, among other things, deputies believed the driver was DUI and decided to initiate a traffic stop. The vehicle failed to yield and took off.
Since DUI is a pursuable offense, deputies were able to chase after the vehicle. Deputies deployed stop sticks at Pacific Ave S and 112th St S. With several flat tires, the vehicle slowed significantly, and deputies performed a PIT maneuver, causing the vehicle to spin around and stop in the middle of Pacific Ave near 96th St E.
As soon as the vehicle stopped, the three occupants immediately fled on foot. Deputies and a Tacoma officer caught up to the suspects and took them into custody.
The vehicle had been reported stolen.
The 15-year-old driver was wearing a ski mask and had a bottle of tequila and a marijuana pipe on him. He was booked into Remann Hall for possession of a stolen vehicle, DUI and eluding. His 14-year-old passengers were booked for possession of a stolen vehicle.
