Drive-By Shooting at Sheriff’s Precinct

At 12:24 am, on Wednesday September 11th, our deputies were doing paperwork at the Parkland Precinct when they saw a dark vehicle driving south on Pacific Ave S and heard several gunshots which seemed to be directed towards them.

Our deputy and the sergeant immediately sped to Pacific Ave and started checking for the vehicle. They couldn’t see any dark sedans continuing south on Pacific Ave. As they got south of Military Rd E he saw a dark sedan was completing a U-Turn at the side gate for the Spanaway Lake Golf Course. The driver had his window down and was getting ready to pull out.

As the deputy passed the driveway to the golf course the suspect turned in behind him in the left lane. The deputy feared the suspect was going to start firing at him. The sergeant was ahead of both vehicles and also slowed way down but the suspect dropped his speeds to stay behind them.

The sergeant pulled into the Safeway lot and the deputy sped through the intersection of 159th and Pacific Ave. The suspect made a left turn at the light and then deputies were able to get behind him and perform a traffic stop.

The suspect pulled over at 16000 B St S and a felony stop was conducted. Deputies detained the suspect and did not locate a firearm on him. The sergeant suggested they go back to the golf course gate where the suspect had turned in when they first spotted him.

Other deputies went to the golf course and located a Sig Sauer pistol near the driveway of the golf course.

Deputies didn’t locate any shell casings near the precinct and no bullet strikes on the building. Detectives served a search warrant this morning and located a spent shell casing inside of the suspect’s vehicle.

The 33-year-old suspect was booked into the Pierce County Jail for Drive-by Shooting, Assault, and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm in the 1st Degree.
