Don’t Do Drugs

At 12:11 am, on Sunday October 14th, one of our deputies located a stolen vehicle near 8900 Riverside Drive in Sumner. The deputy attempted a traffic stop and the suspect fled.

The deputy gave chase, but the pursuit ended right away at 74th St E and 166th Ave E. The suspect immediately fled on foot and left his female passenger stayed in the vehicle. Our deputy gave chase as the suspect ran through a yard and jumped a fence into a field. The suspect was warned not to reach into his pockets as he was running, but he kept reaching.

The suspect eventually stopped and gave up at the other end of the field. He immediately yelled he swallowed some pills. The deputy took him into custody and walked him back to the patrol vehicle.

The deputies checked on the suspect a few minutes later and saw he was possibly overdosing. Deputies administered Narcan and laid the suspect in the recovery position before the fire department arrived.

After the fire department arrived the suspect was very aggressive and uncooperative. He shouted that he had no warrants and with the name he gave, that seemed to be true.

The man was transported to the hospital to be cleared and there, he passed some narcotics that he had “hidden.”

At the hospital the deputy was able to confirm the suspect gave a false name. A big clue was his last name tattooed on his arm. A records check revealed the suspect had multiple warrants for his arrest.

The warrants were for: Escape Community Custody for Unlawful Possession of a Firearm 2nd Degree, DV Assault 4 and Theft from Kent, a Hit and Run Warrant from King County and Possession of a Vehicle Theft Tool from Bonney Lake.

Once he was cleared from the hospital, the suspect was booked into the Pierce County Jail for, Eluding, Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substances (UPCS), Obstructing, Resisting Arrest, False Statements, and Driving While License Suspended (DWLS 3rd Degree).

Outstanding job deputies!
