#1 Stolen SUV Pursuit and Arrest
On December 14th, around 2:30 am, our graveyard deputies spotted a stolen vehicle on Pacific Ave South at the 9900 block and attempted a traffic stop. The car attempts to escape through a drive-thru before it takes off at a high rate of speed on Pacific Ave heading South. The driver of the stolen vehicle seemed impaired and would suddenly brake and then accelerate. The driver failed to negotiate a turn and wrecked into a parked vehicle and a tree at the 8000 block of S. Park Ave. When deputies approached the stolen SUV, the suspect had taken off on foot. Tacoma Police Department assisted with K9 Buck, and we were quickly able to locate the suspect in someone’s backyard on their back balcony. The male suspect tried to play it off that he was no involved in the stolen vehicle or car wreck and insisted we had the wrong person, but body cam and dash cam don’t lie! The 36-year-old male was arrested and booked into the Pierce County Jail for possession of stolen property, resisting arrest, hit and run, eluding, and trespassing.
#2 Reckless Driver Arrested for Doing Donuts
This second call was more great work by our graveyard deputies when a deputy was patrolling the area of 224th St. E and Orting Kapowsin Hwy E on December 12th, around 2:45 am when he spotted a Mustang doing donuts, blocking the intersection, and being reckless. The driver did the right thing and pulled over for the deputy, and was arrested for a gross misdemeanor of reckless driving rather than eluding and risking a felony charge with possible damage to his car.
