WARNING: Don’t Get Scammed!

The Pierce County Sheriff’s Office is warning the public about phone scams involving individuals falsely claiming to be Sheriff’s Office employees.

In many cases, scammers are using public booking records to identify recently booked inmates. They then contact family members and claim they can secure a loved one’s early release, home monitoring, or placement into special jail programs, but only if money is paid immediately over the phone.

The Pierce County Sheriff’s Office will NEVER ask for money over the phone and does not accept payments for release, home monitoring, or jail programs by phone, gift cards, wire transfers, or electronic payment apps.

If you receive a call like this:

  • Do not send money
  • Do not share personal or financial information
  • Hang up immediately

If you believe you’ve been targeted, report the call to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office using a verified phone number or contact your local law enforcement agency.

Please share this message to help protect others—especially families who may be stressed or vulnerable after a loved one’s recent arrest.

Stay alert. Stay safe.
