At 10:19 am on Tuesday July 2nd, our deputies responded to assist when they heard a Washington State Trooper advise a suspect in a white van fired shots at them on Hwy 512 in Lakewood.
Deputies were able to locate the vehicle and the vehicle fled from them. The suspect was actively firing at deputies and troopers as they were pursuing him.
The suspect led them to the dead end at 205th St E and 5th Ave Ct E where he exited the van and continued to fire at law enforcement. Deputies announced “Shots fired,” and eventually were able to detain the suspect.
Paramedics were called into the scene to treat the suspect, but he was pronounced deceased at the scene.
No law enforcement officers were injured during this incident.
The Pierce County Force Investigation Team has been called in to take over the investigation into this shooting. All future press releases will come from them.
