At 11:30 am, on Tuesday October 15th, one of our dayshift deputies noticed a motorcycle with no license plate driving on 92nd Ave and 224th St E. He initiated a traffic stop and this time the driver pulled over.
The deputy asked the rider to turn the bike off and the rider was telling him the bike was his buddy’s and it had been stolen. The deputy again asked him to turn off the bike and then asked if he had a key. The rider said no and pulled a screwdriver out of his pocket to turn off the motorcycle.
In addition to not having a plate, or a key, the rider didn’t have a license or any paperwork for the motorcycle. Our deputy conducted a records check on the VIN number and discovered the motorcycle was reported stolen out of Kent.
The deputy placed the rider under arrest and the rider told him his friend said to call him if he had any problems with the police. The deputy told him it still didn’t matter because he was in possession of the stolen motorcycle so he was being arrested. The deputy gave some advice telling him he needs better friends.
If it sounds too good to be true it probably is, so please avoid buying a vehicle with no paperwork or license plate and needs a shaved key or screwdriver to get started we all know or should know this is not normal.
In addition to all the suspicious things about the bike, this subject has a prior record for possession of a stolen motor vehicle. Instead of going home, this man was booked into the Pierce County Jail for Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle.
Great stop deputy!
