11/9/24, 12:08pm
Fatal Collision
24900 blk Orville Rd E, Mountain Detachment
Incident # 24-314-00954

Deputies were dispatched to a multi-vehicle collision involving a pickup truck and several motorcycles. According to witnesses, the pickup truck was headed northbound on Orville Rd E and a group of motorcycles was traveling southbound. One of the motorcycles failed to negotiate a curve and struck the pickup truck’s rear driver’s side tire area. This caused the truck to spin out of control into the southbound lanes, striking a second motorcycle. That rider did not survive his injuries. A third motorcycle went down during the collision. The first and third riders were treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Nobody in the pickup was injured. Deputies do not believe speed or drugs/alcohol were a factor.

Assault, Resisting Arrest
34200 blk Tanwax Ct E, Mountain Detachment
Incident # 24-314-01462

Deputies were dispatched to an assault that occurred at an RV park. The victim called 911 to report that he had been assaulted by another guest. When deputies arrived, the victim told them that the suspect had just arrived at the park that day and was parked in the spot next to him. The victim said the suspect was heavily intoxicated and he saw him drinking from a large vodka bottle. The victim was filling his generator with gas when the suspect came outside and punched him in the head. He also threatened to kill the victim. Deputies ordered the suspect to exit his trailer, but he was uncooperative. They eventually got him to open the door and they took him into custody after a brief struggle. The 49-year-old was booked into jail for felony harassment, assault in the fourth degree, and resisting arrest.

Wire Theft
Canyon Rd E & 204th St Ct E, Spanaway
Incident # 24-315-01134

Deputies were dispatched to a suspicious person call where the 911 caller reported that a man appeared to be stealing wire from light poles. When deputies arrived, they saw a man wearing a high-visibility vest and hard hat. After a brief investigation, they determined he was not authorized to pull the wire, which belonged to Pierce County Public Works. As deputies attempted to arrest him, the suspect jumped up and tried to run. He didn’t get more than a few feet away and, after a brief struggle, deputies placed him in handcuffs. The 49-year-old was booked into jail for theft in the first degree, making false statements, obstructing, and resisting arrest.

Commercial Burglary
12300 blk Meridian E, South Hill
Incident # 24-316-00511

Deputies were dispatched to a commercial burglary that occurred overnight at a paint supply store. When deputies arrived, the manager showed them video of a black Dodge pickup truck arriving in the parking lot at 11:00 p.m. the night before. The driver turned off the lights and backed up in front of the store. The suspect tried to pry open the door but failed, so he ended up smashing the glass to gain entry. He filled a trash bag with items and fled the store in his vehicle.

Eluding, DUI Arrest
10400 blk Pacific Ave S, Parkland
Incident # 24-316-01017

Deputies were dispatched to a welfare check at a gas station. The 911 caller reported that a man was passed out behind the wheel of a vehicle. When deputies arrived, they placed spike strips around the tires in case the driver woke up and tried to flee. One the spikes were in place, deputies woke up the driver. He immediately started the car and tried to drive away, even though deputies ordered him to stop. Deputies pursued the vehicle, which fled in a reckless manner on deflated tires. After a successful PIT maneuver, the suspect fled on foot. Deputies chased him and used a taser to apprehend him. The suspect lost consciousness and, suspecting that he had ingested fentanyl, deputies administered Narcan and placed him in a recovery position. He regained consciousness and fire personnel took over his care when they arrived. Once he was medically cleared and a blood draw was completed, the 39-year-old suspect was booked into jail for eluding, DUI, and obstructing.
