#1 Residential Fire and Death Investigation
On July 4th around 4:00am, a residential fire was reported in the Peninsula Detachment located in the 7500 block of 144th St. SW in Gig Harbor. The two homeowners, their adult daughter, son-in-law, and four grandchildren all escaped without injuries. Deputies searched the premises for an 80-year-old man that was also reported living in the home, but it was later determined the man was not able to escape. This fire investigation is ongoing.
#2 Vehicular Assault and DUI
On July 7th around 8:00pm, calls came in reporting a three-vehicle collision with injuries at the 21500 block of 22nd Ave. E in Spanaway. When deputies arrived, it was reported the driver of the black Mustang was driving recklessly prior to the collision and turned southbound onto 22nd Ave. E at a high rate of speed. This caused the Mustang to go into the oncoming lane of travel and collide with two other vehicles. The 49-year-old male driver of the Mustang went to the hospital with unknown injuries and will be charged with vehicular assault and DUI pending the results from a blood warrant. The victims in the other vehicles were treated by Fire on scene.
#3 Vandalism and Arson
On July 6th at approximately 10:30pm, deputies were advised that Fire was on scene at the 26800 block of Sumner Buckley Hwy E for a brush fire that had been ignited by a firework thrown in a mailbox. The victim reported she had just replaced the mailbox from a previous explosion and believed the same suspect blew it up again. This vandalism and arson are under investigation.
