Over the Weekend 7-15-25

We had a couple of great calls to highlight from over the weekend. These deputies did a great job safely taking the suspects into custody.

#1 SWAT Standoff

On July 13th around 12:00pm, deputies responded to the 500 block of 127th St. S in Parkland for a male suspect that was randomly firing off rounds from a pistol with a drum magazine inside an apartment. The apartment was surrounded by several other apartment complexes and a crowded neighborhood. Family members stated the male was having a mental health episode and needed help. Deputies began evacuating the surrounding homes to get everyone to safety as several shots continued to be fired from the apartment by the suspect. After several attempts to get the suspect to come out, SWAT was called to take over the scene. A 3½-hour standoff with SWAT turned into the suspect attempting to flee out the back door when he saw the SWAT Ram coming to the door. SWAT members were able to safely get him to comply in the backyard. The 20-year-old will be facing several charges, including reckless endangerment, pending his mental abilities.

#2 Foot Pursuit in 80 Degrees

On July 14th around 6pm, one of our deputies was patrolling the area of 176th St. E and Gem Heights Dr. E when he recognized a male subject that was wanted for several warrants. A long foot pursuit began when the deputy attempted contact. Thankfully, some passersby pointed out the suspect hiding under a semi-truck, and the deputy was able to safely take the suspect into custody. The 28-year-old male was arrested for criminal trespassing, resisting arrest, and his warrants for robbery, trafficking stolen property, and identity theft.
