DUI Driver Crashes into Deputy

On October 8th, around 5:15pm,  traffic deputies were dispatched to the 3100 block of River Rd E for a pickup truck that crashed head-on with a deputy’s patrol car. The deputy was en route to a call off River Road and was in the two-way left turn lane to turn onto 31st Ave Ct East from River Road.  The suspected DUI driver was heading the opposite direction when he claims he braked to avoid a crash with the vehicle in front of him, causing him to veer into the center turn lane where the deputy was legally standing. The airbags deployed in the deputy’s vehicle. Neither driver sustained injuries, and the driver of the pick-up was arrested for suspected DUI. A PCSO Traffic Deputy handled the collision, and WSP assisted and arrested the causing driver for DUI after substantial evidence was gathered. The deputy’s vehicle had to be towed and was placed out of service.
