When You Hear Sirens, Please Yield!

When you hear a siren or see flashing lights behind you, every second matters. Emergency vehicles, ambulances, fire trucks, and police are responding to someone’s worst moment. Your actions can help them get there faster and safer. If an emergency vehicle is approaching from behind, check your surroundings, and safely pull over to the right. Come to a complete stop and stay there until it has passed. At intersections, don’t panic and don’t block the way. If you’re already in the intersection, clear it safely, then pull over. Never stop in the middle of traffic. On multi-lane roads, all lanes must yield. Do not try to outrun or follow an emergency vehicle, it’s dangerous and illegal.

And remember: move over or slow down for emergency vehicles stopped on the roadside. First responders are working just feet away from traffic.

Yielding isn’t just the law—it’s a responsibility we share.

One safe move from you could save a life.
