Crosswalk Violator Arrest

Being that it’s School Resource Officer Appreciation Week, I’d like to thank these School Resource Officers for keeping our children and schools safe, especially our crosswalks.

On February 10th around 2:00pm dismissal for a middle school, school surveillance captures a driver disregarding the crossing guard’s commands to wait for students to pass. The driver decides he will drive through the crosswalk while the crossing guard is standing there and a student was attempting to cross.

On February 11th, deputies review the surveillance video and establish probable cause for the 34-year-old male driver for reckless driving and driving while license was suspended. Deputies locate the vehicle parked in the bus loop and attempted contact for an arrest. After several minutes, the male refuses to step out of the vehicle and the deputy ends up having to break the window and assist the driver out. The male was booked into the Pierce County Jail for reckless driving, driving while license was suspended x2 and resisting arrest.

We understand it can be frustrating to wait for crossing students, but we also want to know our kids are coming home safe and the staff that care for them are safe too. Thank you for our School Resource Officers.
