#1 Man with Large Knife Threatens to Kill People in Park

On March 13th, around 7:15pm, Pierce County Park employees from Spanaway Lake Park called 911, reporting a male subject was in the park going around threatening to kill people with a large knife. Deputies established probable cause to arrest the man and knew he needed to be taken into custody before someone got hurt. K9 Coda and his handler responded to the scene and immediately began their work. K9 Coda located the suspect hiding in some brush not far off a walking path. The 56-year-old male suspect was taken into custody and arrested for assault in the first degree.

#2 Shooting at the Golden Given Terrace Apartments

On March 15th, around 7:30pm, dozens of callers reported hearing 20-70 rapid shots fired. Shortly after, it was reported that a male had been shot. When deputies arrived, a 26-year-old male was located with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds. The preliminary investigation indicates this was a shower of gunfire between individuals who fled the scene, and the victim had sadly been in the wrong place at the wrong time. This was a completely reckless act of violence, and we are fortunate no others were hurt. There are no suspects in custody at this time, and the investigation is ongoing.
