- Mental Health Crisis
On August 17th around 2pm, a male called 911 and said he was confused, had a gun, and needed to go to the hospital. Fire would not respond until deputies made sure everything was safe. Deputies arrived at the 37500 block of State Rt 706 E, in Ashford, and attempted contact. The man told the deputies to come inside, but they did not know what his intent was. The man continued to lie in bed and hide his hands under a blanket. After a few minutes, the male presents an AR-style rifle and then a pistol. The deputies had extreme restraint as they attempted to negotiate and deescalate the situation. The male eventually comes out and is quickly taken to the ground. The male later admits he is confused and needs help, and he initially wanted to have the deputies shoot him. The 39-year-old male was later hospitalized to receive mental health services, and the police report was forwarded to a prosecutor for review.
- Seizure of 55 Animals
This next call occurred on August 18th, when our Pierce County Animal Control and deputies served a warrant to seize 55 animals from a property in South Prairie located in the 300 block of SW 3rd Street. With the help of Fish and Wildlife personnel and veterinarian doctors, several dogs and cats were seized along with a deer, raccoons, opossums, and other types of animals. The complaint stemmed from citizens that were concerned for the animals and said they were not being taken care of. They also reported illegal breeding without a license. This is an active investigation, and the Tacoma Humane Society is currently housing the animals until the case is closed. Fish and Wildlife took custody of the wild animals. For anyone that wants to help with this large animal seizure, please reach out to the Tacoma Humane Society.
