Here are just a few interesting calls we responded to over the weekend.
#1 EXPLOSION
On June 28th, just after midnight, deputies responded to an explosion at the 8100 block of 94th Ave. Victims reported a known vehicle and suspect had thrown an explosive at their home, causing damage to the house and front porch. Deputies went to the address of the suspected vehicle and located it parked with no plates on it. The suspect that was driving the vehicle came out to speak with the deputies and eventually admitted, “It was just a firework.” The 15-year-old passenger was not arrested. The 45-year-old suspect was arrested and booked into the Pierce County jail for a class B felony of malicious placement of an explosive device and malicious mischief 2nd degree. This investigation will be forwarded to a juvenile prosecutor for review for the 15-year-old male involved.
#2 STREET RACER SHUT-DOWN
On June 29th, a large street racer event took place where 100+ participants were taking over intersections and recklessly driving. Our deputies moved in to break up the event and disperse the crowds when multiple participating vehicles took off. A pursuit of one vehicle led to the suspect vehicle wrecking out on Hwy 509 in the city limits. All four suspects were arrested and will be facing several misdemeanor and felony charges around street racing and eluding.
#3 VEHICLE ACCIDENT
This last call is an unfortunate accident involving a work truck that rolled down a driveway and ran over the worker that was using the truck. On June 27th around 7:00pm, calls came in from Canterwood Dr NW and Muir Dr NW in Gig Harbor stating a 65-year-old male had been run over by his truck. The male died on the scene from his injuries. This investigation is ongoing as detectives figure out what was wrong with the truck.
