On August 20th around 2:30am, a Puyallup police officer spotted a stolen car near the intersection of 112th St. S and Pacific Ave. S. The vehicle had recently been stolen from the Spanaway area. The Puyallup officer attempted a traffic stop, but the vehicle fled eastbound on 112th and headed towards Portland Ave. Our deputies joined Puyallup and were able to get stop sticks out at Waller Rd E and 112th St E.
The vehicle reached speeds up to 98 mph and luckily hit the stop sticks, taking the speeds down to a safer level. The stolen vehicle continued to flee down Portland Ave and used the onramp to head eastbound on SR 512.
The pursuit ended quickly on SR 512 using a PIT maneuver. As soon as the vehicle came to a stop, four subjects fled from the vehicle, all wearing hoodies and face coverings. All four occupants were taken into custody after attempting to hide in heavy brush along the sides of the highway.
It was later learned all the arrestees were juveniles. The driver was a 15-year-old male with no driver’s license, and there was a 13-year-old male passenger, a 15-year-old female passenger, and a 17-year-old female passenger.
Stolen vehicles are often used to aid in the commission of a multitude of additional crimes. Great job to our deputies and the Puyallup Police Officers who likely prevented a string of crimes from happening throughout the night. We love getting to work with our neighbors!
