#1 Dodge Charger Pursuit with DUI and Collision
On January 9th, around 2:30 am, graveyard deputies witnessed a red Dodge Charger traveling over 80 mph heading northbound on Pacific Ave S from 174th St S. The posted speed limit was 35mph, and several other drivers were on the road. An attempted traffic stop led to the vehicle taking off at a high rate of speed. A pursuit began, and the vehicle pulled further away from the deputy as it ran red lights and swerved in and out of traffic.
The pursuit ends at S Tacoma Ave and S 88th St when it fails to negotiate a roundabout, hitting a curb, and crashing into multiple parked cars out front of a home. The 18-year-old male driver was taken into custody, and alcohol could be smelled coming from his person. He told the deputies the Charger belonged to a family member, and he took it without permission.
The suspect agreed to a field sobriety test, and signs of impairment were present. The suspect was booked into the Pierce County Jail for eluding, taking a motor vehicle without permission, reckless driving, and DUI.
#2 Unlawful Discharge of a Firearm Arrest
This second call was also reported on January 9th, around 8:00 pm, when multiple residents living around the 18600 block of B St. E in Spanaway reported a male subject had a pistol and was firing off shots while walking down the road.
Deputies conducted an area check and found the male subject who matched the description of the alleged shooter. The suspect immediately took off running when he saw the deputy. The suspect jumped a fence and ran into someone’s backyard. Thankfully, he quickly gave up and was peacefully taken into custody. An empty holster was located on his right hip. Deputies searched around the area where he was seen running and located a pistol hidden behind some children’s outdoor play toys. The pistol was recovered, and the 32-year-old male was booked for unlawful discharge of a firearm, obstruction, and trespassing.
