Go, Dogs. Go!

It’s not too often two K9 dogs are deployed, but in this incident, it was necessary.

On September 10th around 7:15am, multiple residents at the Aspen Creek Apartments in Puyallup called 911, stating a male subject was walking around holding a gun and did not appear to be well. He was last seen walking towards a daycare. Walking around holding a gun is not necessarily a crime, but the behavior was very concerning.

Deputies were able to identify the male that was seen holding the gun as a 36-year-old man with felony warrants who was not supposed to have a gun. K9 Clark arrived to track the suspect down since he had disappeared prior to the deputies arriving. K9 Clark led deputies through the Aspen Creek Apartments and, shortly later, to a home where the suspect was reportedly seen going into a small house in the backyard.

K9 Clark quickly found the suspect buried in a pile of clothing, and he was taken into custody. The gun remained outstanding. Our bomb dog, K9 Smokey, was brought in next to sniff out the gun. Smokey quickly located the gun hidden in the small house. It was later determined to be stolen.

The 36-year-old suspect will be facing several charges, including burglary, possession of stolen property, unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of a controlled substance, obstructing and resisting arrest, and other felony warrants.

We think K9 Clark and K9 Smokey will be celebrating with a couple of steaks this weekend. Great job to all the deputies involved, especially our K9 team, for all that you do.
