A deputy contacted the father, who said his 30-year-old son was apparently cleaning the gun in his bedroom when he accidentally shot himself. The deputy met the father at his residence and took custody of the pistol, which appeared to have dried blood on it. The son is a convicted felon and is prohibited from possessing firearms. Boating Accident
Lake Tapps
A deputy was dispatched to a boating collision that had just occurred on Lake Tapps. When the deputy arrived, a witness told him that he saw two jet boats on the lake and one of them went partially airborne, crashed, and sank into the lake. He said the other boat picked up the sole occupant of the wrecked boat and left the area. Another witness heard the boaters talking about going to the hospital. A short time later, the deputy responded to the hospital and contacted the boater. He said he hit a large wave, which caused his bow to rise out of the water. When it came down, it went under the water and the vessel was torn apart. He said he was stuck behind the wheel and his lifejacket helped him get to the surface.

Stolen Vehicle, Illegal Firearms Possession
15800 blk Pacific Ave S, Spanaway
A patrol deputy was driving through a grocery store parking lot when he spotted an older Honda Accord with no license plates. He drove up to the vehicle and started talking with the two people who were in and around the car. A records checked revealed that the car had been stolen in Federal Way. The deputy informed the male driver that he was under arrest. As the deputy attempted to handcuff the suspect, he took off running. The deputy chased after the suspect, but lost sight of him. While other deputies arrived to assist, grocery store employees called 911 to report that the suspect had doubled back. The original deputy ran back to the parking lot and found the suspect hiding inside another vehicle. The suspect got out of the vehicle and ran again. The deputy gave chase and took the suspect into custody. Deputies located a pistol on the floorboard of the stolen vehicle. The 32-year-old suspect is a convicted felon (burglary and vehicle theft) and is prohibited from possessing firearms. He was booked into jail for unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of a stolen vehicle, and obstructing. He also had a warrant for robbery in the first degree.
