On Thursday August 1st, our animal control officers served a search warrant on a property with a large cockfighting operation. Animal Control seized 232 birds from the property (updated numbers include hens and chicks). They discovered a fighting pit, multiple knives, medication and altered birds on the property.
Usually fighting birds have to be euthanized due to their aggressiveness towards other roosters and people. What’s different about this warrant is our animal control officers were able to find shelters that will work on placing these roosters in new homes so we can actually save them instead of just stopping the fighting and destroying the animals.
Outstanding work and display of compassion for these animals that were bred into an unfortunate situation.
