Deputies Honored for Heroic Actions

Recently, Deputy Dolan and Deputy Beddo were recognized by the Southern California Gang Conference for their courage, service, and heroism for the apprehension of a dangerous gang member in December of 2023. You may recall the video that was released in March of 2026.

Deputy Dolan received the Alex Collins Award, presented to law enforcement officers who demonstrate extraordinary courage. Deputy Beddo was honored with the Service, Sacrifice, and Heroism Award for his outstanding actions during a critical incident on December 12, 2023.

What began as an attempt to stop a suspected impaired driver quickly escalated into a dangerous encounter. Unbeknownst to responding deputies, the suspect was a member of a white supremacist gang, wanted in connection with a recent double homicide, and armed with a handgun equipped with an extended magazine. During the incident, both deputies were struck by gunfire. Thanks to protective equipment, training, and determination, one deputy was saved by his armored vest, while the other sustained a grazing wound and avoided serious injury.

Every day, our deputies put on the badge knowing they may face the unexpected. Their commitment to protecting our community, even in the face of extreme danger, exemplifies the highest traditions of law enforcement service.

“Courage is being scared to death… and saddling up anyway.” — John Wayne

Congratulations, Deputy Dolan and Deputy Beddo, and thank you for your bravery and dedication to the citizens of Pierce County.
