On June 25th at approximately 12:40pm, one of our traffic deputies spotted a stolen vehicle. The vehicle was driving aggressively and changing lanes rapidly to get through traffic. Deputies pursued the vehicle and lost sight of it for a short time before they were able to see a dust cloud of smoke where the vehicle had wrecked out hitting a power pole, and the driver was fleeing.
The female suspect fled to the backyard of a nearby home where the homeowner informed us she was hiding. The female suspect was taken into custody and repeatedly kept saying “I didn’t do anything”. However, there were several witnesses who saw her driving, she had facial injuries from the driver’s side airbag and her phone was connected to the Bluetooth in the vehicle.
The suspect was later booked into the Pierce County Jail for Possession of a Stolen Property, Driving While License was Suspended, Hit and Run for the damage to the pole and Eluding Police.
Great work by our deputies and the citizens involved in helping us track down the suspect. If you truly didn’t do anything, don’t run so we can investigate what happened. Just a reminder, if you do run, the pursuit laws are no longer in your favor.
