#1 – Aircraft Hit with Laser Leads to Arrest
On March 27th, around 10:30 p.m., deputies were notified by the Washington State Patrol via an aircraft that they were being actively targeted by a green laser from the ground. The subject could be seen by the aircraft observer in the Parkland area in a backyard. From the aircraft, WSP was able to give a detailed description of the suspect to the deputies on the ground.
While deputies were en route, the suspect continued to shine the laser at the aircraft. When the deputies arrived, the suspect fled into a home. The suspect eventually came out and was taken into custody without incident. For over 30 minutes, the female suspect attempts several times to evade arrest by making false statements about having medical issues and other reasons as to why she could not go to jail. Fire arrived and cleared the suspect of having any issues that were reported. The suspect makes one last effort to evade arrest by collapsing.
The 31-year-old female was taken to the hospital to rule out any medical issues. She was later cleared from the hospital and booked into the Pierce County Jail for felony unlawful discharge of a laser in the 1st degree and obstructing a law enforcement officer.
#2 – Motorcycle DUI Arrest
On March 28th, around 2:20am, a Sergeant observed a motorcycle with a passenger on the back, traveling around 80 mph on 176th St. E. The posted speed limit was 35 mph for this section of 176th St. E. The driver pulled over near B street and 176th St. E. The male driver and his passenger were detained. The driver admitted to drinking and agreed to take a breathalyzer test. He blew a .152. The 40-year-old male was arrested for DUI, and the passenger was released at the scene. We are fortunate this DUI was stopped before someone could get hurt. Great work to all these deputies.
