On May 8, 2026, at approximately 0710 hours, Deputies responded to a single-vehicle fatality collision in the 600 block of 138th St E.
Preliminary investigation determined that the vehicle was traveling westbound on 138th St E at a high rate of speed. The driver crossed into the eastbound lanes to pass another vehicle, then attempted to return to the westbound lane. The driver lost control, struck a utility pole, and the force of the impact dislodged the engine. The vehicle then rolled and collided with a parked vehicle. The driver was ejected approximately 40 feet from the vehicle and was pronounced deceased at the scene. No other occupants or injuries were reported.
Many homes are without power, to include Elmhurst Elementary School. The school is on a delay and time of restoration to the power is unknown. Further details about the driver will be updated once family notifications have been made.
